At the heart of Modena, the Palazzo Ducale stands as a monument to Baroque splendour. Once a fortress, the building became the sumptuous seat of the Este court, shaping the aesthetic canons of 17th-century art. It is now home to the Military Academy of Modena.
Today, the extraordinary courtyard has undergone a profound restoration and been given new life through light. A meticulous lighting design balances functional passage lighting with accent illumination on the vaults, highlighting the architectural rhythm of the quadriportico.
Spine by Vincent Van Duysen marks the passage, its elliptical beam casts a controlled glow across the marble floor. Minimalist, discreet, and highly directional, Spine integrates seamlessly into the historic structure.
Above, Outgraze by Flos Outdoor draws out the vaults in luminous, curtain-like strokes. The indirect light provided by the high-performance linear fixture grazes the architectural surfaces of the courtyard, emphasising depth and scale.
Precise in performance and restrained in appearance, the two products complement the historic context perfectly. They can be activated together or independently, depending on the desired lighting effect.
