Pritchard Themis
Self-described as ‘a little compact studio in East London’, Pritchard Themis have been creating lighting projects for high-end commercial and residential clients and beyond since 2004. From functional lighting for aeroplanes and lobbies to scenographic illuminations for facades and sacred spaces, the studio’s expertise has stretched as far as light will go.
We are a little compact studio based in East London, I think we have always made a point of trying to be as collaborative as we can as a company. We believe that is the only way to truly arrive at a sensible conclusion for any design process.
The building gives you context but it is how you shape the experience, which can sound incredibly pompous, but you have to understand quite how much of a difference lighting design can actually make to one's experience of the space.
I think that's what constantly drives us: how can we make the space feel better, how can we make people feel more positive in the space.
Flos fittings are always beautifully thought through and there's an elegance in them. You know they are nicely made and that they have thought about the materials. They are sophisticated and they satisfy both architectural aesthetics and client aspirations.
We know we can rely on the light fittings themselves and equally important to us is the support we are given. Flos are invested in maintaining and supporting the project beyond the point of sale.
The Flos team are always there, especially when you are dealing with fittings that need a little bit of an extra loving touch in terms of installation and details.
Light Shadow
Light Shadow ticks all the boxes. It looks great but it also performs as we lighting designers want it to perform. It has a presence in the space but it doesn’t distract the eye necessarily, it’s the best of both worlds.
Light Shadow does have a lux feel to it and a sacred element. It catches the eye as you first enter a bar but also works when you want more discreet lights in a domestic setting. I don’t think we have fully pushed its potential yet.
It’s very compact. It’s a real clean piece of kit and it’s ready out of the box to put where you want but it looks so beautiful you think, ‘Let’s not use it everywhere.’ It’s a fitting of choice for a good spot.
