Adjustable luminaire featuring a painted or nickel-plated shaped steel tube that slides vertically along a ceiling-to-floor cable kept in tension by a cast-iron counterweight. A fixture head made of black injection-moulded elastomer houses the switch. Allows the addition of a second light source.
Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù, Parentesi is a modern design classic and a celebration of collaboration. It is named after the parenthesis symbol in reference to the curved metal tube that holds the bulb. Achille Castiglioni developed the design from an original drawing by Pio Manzù, and Parentesi is attributed to both designers despite them never meeting and Manzù dying two years before the lamp came to be. Parentesi won the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI Award in 1979 and is part of the permanent collection at MoMA and other major design museums.
