An enduring legend of lighting design, Snoopy was conceived by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1967 and perfectly embodies a tendency to infuse functional design with a sense of humour. With a silhouette resembling the famous cartoon dog that gave it its name, the lamp’s design has remained unchanged: a slanted marble base supporting an enamelled metal shade held in perfect equilibrium.
Typical Castiglioni ingenuity underpins the bright idea behind the lamp, with technology embedded into the base in an innovative move for the time.
The lower plane of the reflector cap and the support crystal are perpendicular to the inclined cylinder at the base and direct the luminous flux almost entirely towards the working area of the reflector plane, while limiting it on the opposite side.
The unmistakable snout-shaped reflector reminiscent of the world-famous Snoopy character of the Peanuts hides an internal white finish that acts as a reflector to diffuse light evenly onto surfaces.
This brand-new release remains identical to the traditional model, with the cylindrical base made from precious Carrara veined Italian white marble, and the three cooling holes that resemble a bowling ball grip.
The marble base originally housed an on/off switch and an electronic dimmer to adjust brightness – an extremely innovative feature at the time. A highly technological touch sensor dimmer provides the same function today.
